Transforming how Age UK Bristol use technology

Age UK Bristol is a local independent charity, providing a range of services for over 55’s in the Bristol area. Activities include face to face and phone support, as well as campaigns to improve services for older people locally.

Premieredge started working with Age UK Bristol around 4 years ago, and in that time the charity has transformed from largely reacting to technological challenges, to proactively utilising IT systems and tools that help the business to function more smoothly.

Smooth speedy introduction of a new Helpline

Following the outbreak of Covid-19 in the UK, a number of local charities and organisations led by Age UK Bristol got together to discuss how they could help older people locally at this difficult time. The result is the Support Hub – a new service offering practical, social and emotional help to local over 55’s and their families to cope with the impact of Covid-19.

A key feature of the Support Hub is the Helpline, and Age UK Bristol contacted Premieredge to help them to set it up. With lots of new volunteers on board working from their own homes, a solution that offered quick easy deployment needed to be found, which would allow volunteers all over Bristol to answer the Helpline remotely.

Premieredge met the challenge by introducing a 3CX phone system, with all volunteers being provided with the 3CX app enabling them to answer calls on their mobile phones. Installation was completed quickly and smoothly, and the Support Hub Helpline was soon up and running successfully.

‘Premieredge have always supplied Age UK Bristol with a great service, but despite this we were a little nervous about introducing a new phone system to high numbers of new volunteers remotely. In fact, the introduction of the 3CX system turned out to be a smooth process and our volunteers are enjoying using it to answer calls. This is particularly impressive given that many of our volunteers are themselves over 60 (and in several cases over 70).’
